Floeting® diamonds that revolutionize jewelry aesthetics; eliminate claws and buckles

New York, December 7, 2021/PRNewswire/- Jewelry master Ian Douglas (Ian Douglas) revealed that a diamond floats cleanly above its setting, without claws, clasps, or encased metal. It is called "The Floeting® Diamond" and is known as the first major innovation in diamond solitaire ring design since the design of the six-prong setting in 1886 and becoming the 135 design standard.

"This is considered an impossible dream," said Ian Douglas, a New Zealander who has been designing jewelry for more than four years. "Every jeweler in the world has been asked by customers if it can make a ring without claws. Until now, the answer has always been'no'."

In the past ten years, Douglas has been relentlessly pursuing the design of revolutionary diamond setting technology, and there is no obstacle between the diamond and its admirers. The origin of this new setting involves the development of a patented diamond design with Mike Botha, the world's leading Canadian diamond cutter, and laser engineers, metallurgists, scientists, testing laboratories, and patent agents from multiple countries.

The Floeting® Diamond is held in place by laser-cut microgrooves around the bottom of the diamond, which will never hinder light return or aesthetics. The Floeting® Diamond's American Gemological Association Laboratory® cut grade guarantees the most coveted diamond cut grade-AGS Triple Zero®. The high-strength titanium alloy chuck fixes the diamond from the bottom, and independent testing proves that its strength is more than 20% higher than the traditional setting.

Floeting® settings are paired with platinum and 18k gold, and will initially provide solitaire diamond rings, stud earrings and pendants. The first "Basic Series" can be purchased online through VG Jewelers, with prices ranging from US$1,600 to US$30,000. Custom orders are also being invited.

"Our purpose in completing the design task is to gain a very broad market appeal, although our patented system can accommodate diamonds from 0.30 carats to 100 carats," Douglas said.

The patented Floeting® design has a wider range of uses in other shapes, including oval, emerald, pear, Radiant, Marquise, Cushion and Princess, as well as designs for fixing sapphires and rubies.

With its versatile technology, Ian Douglas saw The Floeting® Diamond inlay can be extended to three stone rings, tennis bracelets, Riviere necklaces and drop earrings, and incorporate fashion and clothing design, glasses, and even high-end mobile phones.

Douglas said: "For designers who have been constrained by what I call'claw paralysis' for more than a century, the applications and changes are limitless because they are liberating them."

The biggest challenge in creating a setting is the physical properties of the diamond itself. Douglas said: "Our goal has always been to maximize the return and brilliance, but the geometry of solitaire diamonds is so specific that whenever you try anything new, compromise is usually inevitable." In order to avoid compromise, we had to completely reconsider the setting design and the cut of the diamond itself."

In order to obtain the required high-precision microgrooves, the Floeting® team spent two years developing an advanced laser that is accurate enough to cut microgrooves and flashes at the diamond pavilion directly below the waist without affecting reflectivity. Flashing.

The strength test was modeled after the legendary Nokia mobile phone drop test, and was adapted by the former Formula One engineer according to the standard IEC 60068-2-31:2008, showing breakthrough results. A diamond with a traditional six-prong setting was loosened after 298 drops on a wooden surface from a distance of one meter, while a Floeting® diamond remained firm after thousands of drops.

"We believe that Floeting® Diamond will become the strongest and most durable diamond ring setting ever made," Douglas said.

Floeting® diamonds come from a diamond dealer certified by the London Responsible Jewellery Council, the world's leading jewellery and watch industry standard setting organization.

"We have worked with experts from all over the world to combine hundreds of years of craftsmanship and breakthrough new technologies to create this elegant and seemingly simple setting. Floeting® is our effort to master the physics of diamonds and make jewelry Crystallization. Micron-level precision," Ian Douglas said.

Douglas said that Floeting® Diamond is “very obvious” when you see it, but the execution is “very complicated. For decades, people have accepted the design obstacles of claws and clasps that no one thought there might be a solution.”

"We believe that we have invented a diamond shape and setting method unprecedented in the world."

Ten years of inventions created a series of innovations, and Floeting® was the first to enter the market. Douglas said that the initial series was just the beginning.

A gem company in Sri Lanka has introduced a rare huge gemstone weighing 683 pounds (310 kg), which has proven to be one of the largest corundum found in the country to date. The National Gem and Jewelry Administration of Sri Lanka stated that it has conducted a series of gemological tests on five samples collected from the rock. "As far as we know, this specimen is indeed a rare specimen and is not recorded in the geological literature," the authorities wrote in a certification letter sent to the owner who uncovered the stone on Sunday. When the outer layer was removed for inspection, the internal display letter stated that it had a silky blue patchy appearance, indicating that the stone was a blue sapphire.
