When the pandemic hit, Eau Clairian Monica Markham—a self-proclaimed mother dog, chicken-loving man and crystal lover—started her own horoscope business, known as the Cancer Queen Collective.

"I've always been'cunning'," Markham said, "but the long-term isolation reminds me of the actions of the boss baby."

With all these positive energies, Cancer Queen Collective opened a store in July 2020 to produce polymer clay earrings, crystal-wrapped earrings, and products such as shower gels and scrubs.

Since then, Markham broadened her horizons and began to create new products to sell. One of her more popular products is her essential oil, crystal soap. Each of these handmade soaps has a local crystal from The Broom and Crow, which is placed inside for people to preserve after the soap bubbles.

Another popular product is her crystal-wrapped earrings. Customers can choose from a wide variety of crystals and what size earrings they want. From there, Markham picked up the gems and made a pair of custom hoops according to the client's preferences.

"I know I don't always have pockets, so when I can wear my (crystal) jewelry, I will use it," she said.

In the near future, Markham hopes that her products can be sold in local businesses until she can realize her dream of owning a full-time store on Barstow Street.
