Shoppers unite! Craft fair season is upon us once again, which means live music, apple cider donuts, and lavish handmade items we simply can’t resist.

It’s that time of the year. The time when cozy sweaters reemerge from drawers, ovens begin to warm, and spending time nestled between intricate crafting booths becomes the focal point of the season. From soaps to jams and everything in between, it’s the endless possibilities and artists that make craft fairs so appealing. So, with the help of local crafters and Pinterest’s annual trend-predicting report, we’ve compiled a list of new crafts you can expect to find at the fairs this season.

Number one on the crafting trend is acrylic paint art. One of the hottest DIY trends to enter 2022, this pour-on artistic design is the latest take on abstract art that covers everything from phone cases to glass to wood, tiles, and stone. With beautiful details, swirls, and lavish colors like metallics, pastels, and neons, this booth will be sure to catch everyone’s attention.

Prepare for a comeback when it comes to macramé. While this natural and boho-chic décor has been trending for the past year, crafters have added a myriad of colors, from blush and pine green to mustard, steel, and black, along with new weaving designs that will take this throwback to a new level.

Recently, you’ve probably seen at least one video of someone infusing an old ashtray or keychain with flowers, glitter, or photos thanks to the all-mighty power of epoxy resin. A fun, playful tool for artists, resin has reignited the meaning of jewelry as it’s immersed itself in bracelets, earrings, and necklace charms. In this year’s housewares trend, resin will appear on coffee tables, lamps, coasters, board games, and so much more.

Crochet is always a favorite, but the Japanese art of creating small, stuffed yarn creatures is enough to make anyone swoon. Exploding in popularity, thanks to sites like Pinterest and Etsy, the influence of Amigurumi has sparked its own crochet following. These uniquely adorable plush dolls take the form of anything from animals to fantastical creatures to animated vegetables. But what makes them so squish-worthy is their miniature button noses and rosy cheeks.

As upcycling remains a stronghold, terrazzo comes in with a cool new purpose of reusing a melody of marble chips or granite in polished concrete. The durability and bright colors of terrazzo have been transformed into coasters, magnets, and planters, as if they were mosaic art or creamy nougat.

Shibori dyeing may be best described as tie dyeing with an intention. Instead of blending an assortment of rubber bands and colors to create a random design, shibori dyeing ties, folds, or pins a cloth in a specific pattern before adding dye. The result is an understated indigo pattern that’s elegant and unique enough to find its way onto tablecloths, blankets, handbags, and even wall art.

Expect pom poms and mushrooms – yes, mushrooms – to take center stage when it comes to jewelry, accessories, and home decor. Popping up on garlands, earrings, headbands, toys, and whatever you can dream up in fluffy form, these staple items will be the highlight of the fall and upcoming holiday season.

Goodbye fresh summer flowers, hello paper blooms. Whether it be a traditional bunch for a vase, a seasonal wreath, or even a forever bouquet, these imitation blooms will be bidding for everyone’s attention. Styles span from basic flowers to intricate crepe paper creations that’ll make you do a double-take when you realize they’re not the real thing.
