“If you’re hero is Shania Twain, meet your hero. You may become friends and she may even let you wear THE dress.”

The dress that country superstar Kelsea Ballerini was referring to in her Instagram post was the one she plucked straight from the Grammy Museum to wear as she strutted down the red carpet of the 15th annual ACM Honors.

Ballerini shared closeups of the elegant floor-length white dress with iridescent sequins that covered the train all the way up to the long sleeves and the turtleneck. She added her own touch with the diamond stud earrings and various silver rings. The singer also reposted an Instagram story from the Grammy Museum that read, “Sisterhood of the traveling dress…guess where @shaniatwain’s #GRAMMYs dress is off to next.”

The 28-year-old singer and Twain, who received the Poet’s Award at the ceremony, stopped to pose together on the red carpet with bright smiles spread across their faces. Walking into the night wearing this iconic dress was fitting as Ballerini then kicked off the night in a show-stopping performance of the same song the Canadian singer performed the night she originally wore the dazzling white dress – “Man! I Feel Like A Woman.” Plus, that night in 1999, Twain also won a Grammy for Best Female Country Vocal Performance and Best Country Song (“You’re Still The One”).

Because of the happy memories associated with this dress, seeing Ballerini bring it back to life brought Twain nothing but joy.

“I am so blown away,” Twain told Entertainment Tonight. “She looks stunning. She looks like an absolute angel. It’s very flattering to see her in the dress, and that she even wanted to wear it. I said, ‘I hope it’s not too dusty after being in the (Grammy Museum).’”

She added, “That dress represented that experience, so I’m just happy to see it alive again. Now it has a new life, and it has new memories, and it’s really great to be able to share that with other people, with another women. Obviously it’s a huge compliment to be admired enough that someone would want to step into my dress.”

Not only did Ballerini honor the country music icon by performing “Man! I Feel Like A Woman” at ACM Honors, but she also recreated Twain’s ensemble from the 1999 music video. The “Peter Pan” singer lit up the stage as she came out in a black satin ensemble that included a top hat, tailcoat, cuffs, collar and tie, which closely resembles the outfit worn in the Canadian singer’s classic video. She then leveled up her performance by ditching the outer layer of the outfit and leaving just a black strapless mini dress, fishnet tights and long black gloves.

“One of the things that I think she’s an icon because of is her fashion, and the way she’s always pushing boundaries,” Ballerini told Entertainment Weekly. “I wanted to honor that part of her too.”

Dubbed “Country Music industry’s favorite night,” ACM Honors recognized several special honorees, including ACM Triple Crown Award recipient Miranda Lambert, ACM Spirit Award recipient Chris Stapleton, ACM Poet’s Award recipient Shania Twain, ACM Milestone Award recipient Morgan Wallen and ACM Film Award recipient Yellowstone. 

Performers and presenters included Kelsea Ballerini, Dierks Bentley, The Warren Brothers, Brooks & Dunn, Dan + Shay, Eric Church, Jordan Davis, ERNEST, Jesse Frasure, Vince Gill, Ashley Gorley, Mickey Guyton, HARDY, Wynonna Judd, Avril Lavigne, Little Big Town, Morgan Wallen, Lainey Wilson and more. 

ACM Award winner and Grammy nominee Trace Adkins was also on hand to perform his cover of “A Country Boy Can Survive,” from the upcoming FOX country music drama MONARCH, in which he stars alongside Susan Sarandon and Anna Friel.

ACM Honors will premiere Tuesday, September 13 at 8/7c on FOX.
