I find myself coveting multiple earrings, so decide to add a couple of piercings to my current pair.

The lowdown I consulted the experts and was advised to go straight to Sarah & Sebastian at Mecca in the Sydney CBD for a precision Ear Alchemy piercing service. Not only is the procedure freehand (no needle guns here) but the choice of earrings is fabulous. There I meet Jason, who is a work of art himself and spends time working with me on “styling placement”. I choose two stud earrings: a tiny 18-carat-gold shark with two diamonds ($295), which will sit in the crook of my left ear, and a curl of diamonds, the “Bloom” ($490), for just under the lip at the top of my right ear. I then lie down and a drape is placed over my head with a window for my ear. I take a deep breath as Jason threads the sterile needle through my ear, inserts the earring and screws on the back piece, then repeats for the second stud.

Pain factor Pretty comfortable on the needling front but the cartilage near the earring at the top of my ear is still tender four months on.

Downtime An hour, including choosing my new earrings.

Results I love my new additions and have never looked back.

Where to get it Melbourne and Sydney: Mecca.

At home Use saline solution regularly to clean the piercings.

Different areas on your skin have different needs. For instance, your T-zone may be oily, your cheeks dry and the area under your eyes sensitive, so rather than a one-shot mask, try customised multi-masking to treat different parts of your skin.

Oribe Hair Alchemy Fortifying Treatment Serum (oribe.com, $64) employs cottonseed extract and bamboo leaf to help protect and strengthen fragile hair. Work it into the mid-lengths and ends and then style, or use it as an overnight mask.
